My computer died a final death last week.
In the process of setting up the family lap top for me to work on I discovered a cool feature on chrome...the "Find" bar.  I am so excited with how this works.  I really needed it last week.

Here is the skinny.
When you are looking at a web page in Google Chrome, you can push control F which will bring up a "find bar".  Type in the word you are looking for on that page and Viola! Google chrome highlights the word for you.  I love this feature!

I was looking for an individual on an old newspaper page last week, skimming line by line.  I went back to it today and tried the "find bar" trick and it worked beautifully!

Thank you Google!

Hooked into a British Royal Line? Really?

I had a very nice gentleman in England contact me and tell me he had been working on my Grand mother Beulah Menlove Lichfield line.  Through the IGI, he connected her line back to the 4th century.  It went through many royal lines which I assume are from published genealogies.  I am also skeptical.

This morning as I was working on my home study class on English Research I came across a reference to a book Ancient Families in the British Isle  by  Jeannette Holland Austin.  It looks like this book is available on-line through a membership to a Virginia Historical Society at  Virginia Pioneers.net

It might be worth checking out if I ever get to this project.

Another source to check is Burke's Peerage and Gentry an on-line source  http://www.burkespeerage.com/

This was mentioned in my text book as well.  The introduction to the web site follows:

Welcome to Burke's Peerage and Gentry

Founded by John Burke in 1826, Burke’s Peerage is the definitive guide to the genealogical history of the royal families of Europe, the aristocratic and historical families of the British Isles, and the presidential families of the United States.

There are over 1 million names in more than 15,000 records including the royal families of Europe, the peerage and gentry of the United Kingdom, historical families of Ireland, and distinguished and presidential families of the United States, as well as many other prominent individuals.
